When Long Island City was in its infancy, when there were just a few buildings and fewer restaurants in the area, Sage General Store was already serving delicious traditional American dishes in an old-fashioned country setting. And then, after the restaurant was featured on the tv show "Diners,Drive-Ins and Dives" on The Food Network, people came from near and far to experience their famous bacon dishes, juicy roasted chicken, the wood-burning oven pizza and one of the best macaroni and cheese dishes in New York City!
Now, in 2015, Leslie Nilsson, owner of Sage General Store, is giving the restaurant dinner menu a facelift. The mrnilsson menu, as it's called, was created by professional chefs, Greg Proechel of Blanca Restaurant and Chef Michael Kollarik of Momofuku and The Dinner Lab. The breakfast and lunch menus will remain the same but the dinner tasting menu will feature the Nordic-influenced four-and seven-course dining experiences. The Scandanavian cuisine is served in an upscale setting and is offered Tuesday through Saturday.
Despite some mixed reviews, we found it to be a delightful evening and an excellent experience!
