Costal Storms, including nor'easters, tropical storms and hurricanes can and do affect New York City. With sustained winds of 74mph or greater, hurricanes can flatten buildings, topple trees and turn loose objects into deadly projectiles. 
It is important New Yorkers take the time to prepare. Long Island city residents should have a plan in the event they need to evacuate, residents in evacuations zones, residents who live in 1 through 6 zones may be asked to leave their homes. Find out what zone you live in and the location of your nearest evacuation shelter/center
